Reflux

PEP Test

A non-invasive saliva test that detects pepsin — a marker of reflux episodes.

Clinical use

Provides objective, non-invasive evidence of gastro-oesophageal (and extra-oesophageal) reflux, supporting diagnosis where symptoms are ambiguous.

Highlights

  • Two lines mean pepsin is present; one line means it is not. Read between 5 and 15 minutes
  • Saliva or sputum collected into citric acid, which preserves any pepsin present until the sample is run
