Pancreatic function

Pancreatic Elastase ELISA

A quantitative ELISA for pancreatic elastase-1 — the laboratory reference method.

Clinical use

Quantifies exocrine pancreatic function in the lab, for diagnosis and grading of pancreatic insufficiency.

Highlights

  • Quantitative ELISA — normal 200 to >500 µg E1/g stool; 100–200 µg = moderate to mild exocrine pancreatic insufficiency; under 100 µg = severe. Measuring range 15–500 µg E1/g
  • Enzyme substitution therapy does not influence the result — the assay is specific to human pancreatic elastase 1
